Alexis Bar and Grill was opened by brothers Alan and Patrick O' Reilly in February 2007.

Alan is a lifelong chef and restauranteur and Patrick is a chartered management accountant. Both have strong passion for quality food, wine and service. After much critical acclaim and awards, Alexis continues to thrive mainly due it's simple ethos of taking the very best local produce in season and creating simple yet inventive dishes and offering excellent value and service.

Named after Alexis Benoit Soyer

Soyer, Alexis Benoît, 1809–58, French chef and writer on gastronomy and dietary reform. After the Revolution of 1830 he went to London and was notable as chef (1837–50) of the Reform Club.

In 1847 he was commissioned by the government to open kitchens in Dublin for the benefit of Irish sufferers from famine and saved the lives of thousands of Irish citizens.

He was later (1855–57) sent to the Crimea as a cooking adviser to the British army, which was suffering from poor diet. Soyer invented relishes and sauces, innumerable kitchen utensils, and several types of stove.

His publications include The Pantropheon; or, History of Food (1853) and A Shilling Cookery (1854).

His firm belief was that one could eat very well for modest cost and this philosophy is part of what makes up the Alexis Bar and Grill ethos today.
